Matilda & Bubbles
Last week SE2 celebrated its 8th Birthday and, as a special treat we put our glad rags on and headed into the West End for what was to be a jaw-droppingly magical evening at the theatre.
Rachael recommended we see Matilda the musical at the Cambridge Theatre as she’d already seen it with the family. It’s a Royal Shakespeare Company production based on Roald Dahl’s classic children’s story and created by Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin (who we spotted sitting behind us in the audience).
It was brilliant. The set was fun and colourful and the actors real –life versions of Quentin Blake’s illustrations. I think we felt quite at home with almost all of the main characters being female – Girl Power! Matilda gave a first class debut performance as too did the rest of the incredibly talented cast. They had us on the edge of our seats and in fits of laughter. I didn’t want it to finish and even wiped a few tears away at the end. Everyone should go and see this work of genius, it will leave you feeling full of happiness and joy!
We topped off the evening by skipping into Covent Garden, singing ‘When I grow up’ for a few celebratory glasses of champagne. What a night. See some video footage of Matilda here.
