Sustaining energy saving behaviour at Oxfordshire County Council
We’re currently working with Oxfordshire County Council to develop a new approach to promoting energy saving behaviour amongst staff and visitors.
Using workshops and interviews with Council staff, and research into best practice in other organisations, we’ll be developing a behaviour change strategy that is accessible, concise and sets out a clear path to action.
As an exercise in crowdsourcing we thought we’d ask our friends and followers for contributions! Do you know of any local authorities or other organisations where behaviour change has made a real impact in reducing energy consumption?
If you have any suggestions, email them to Chloe at chloe.mclarenwebb@se-2.co.uk.
A central part of this project will be to learn from previous initiatives – why has enthusiasm for energy saving waned in the past and what are the best ways to motivate staff to take up energy saving practices again?
Although climate change is slipping down the agenda in many local authorities, reducing energy costs is essential. By working with staff to understand the organisational context, and taking inspiration from programmes that have worked elsewhere, we can help to develop a strategy that will sustain energy saving behaviour as an integral part of the Council's culture.
