The SE2 Scuttlebutts: a progress report
Based just 5 minutes from our office, in Deptford, the AHOY charity does some amazing work getting people of all ages and abilities involved in water based activities on the Thames. Working mainly with local disadvantaged young people and those with disabilities they teach sailing and rowing and are a fantastic hub in the community. On the 11th May Chloe, Kathryn and Hannah will be rowing 8.5 miles along the Thames alongside friends and colleagues to raise money for the centre.
With just over a week to go until the big race, we thought we should give you an update on The Scuttlebutts' progress!
Firstly, we’re delighted to announce that we’ve reached our fundraising target of £1000!! We couldn’t have done it without you- thanks so much to those who’ve already donated. For those who have yet to donate, you still have time! It’s for such a great cause, and every penny will be put to good use. Last week Kathryn and Hannah also held a very successful bake sale and raised over £60 to put towards our fundraising total.
We’ve all been training hard, and have had a couple of sessions on the water to get used to the boat- slightly hair-raising but lots of fun. As you can see from the pictures, cutters are huge! They also require a slightly different rowing technique to the normal sculling style (one oar per person instead of two), but we’re getting used to it and will hopefully pass the finish line well ahead of the competition!
Visit our justgiving page to donate, or email Hannah if you’d like to donate offline. We'd also love it if you could come along and cheer us on the day- please email or call Hannah on 0208 912 0444 for more information. We'll continue to post updates here too, so do keep an eye out!
