Calling all schools! Take part in a free trial to test a new energy saving tool
Energy costs can be one of the largest non-staff elements of a school’s budget – and one of the hardest to control.
The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has funded three groups to help schools understand more about their energy use and identify ways in which energy and cost savings can be achieved. We are working with Hoare Lea, City Sciences and Flourishing as one of these consortia.
Together, we are developing an online tool which will:
- Give you a clearer view of how you use energy within your schools
- Use your energy data to identify opportunities for you to make energy savings, which could save 10-20% off your bills
- Provide real-life data sets and accompanying educational resources to embed within teaching
We are looking to work with an initial group of 50 schools to test and develop the online tool between now and February 2019. The process will entail:
- An initial meeting with you so we can get to know your schools and you can ask us more about the project
- Sharing your schools’ energy data with us, by writing a standard letter to your energy supplier
- A short meeting or phone call with each participating school, so that we can provide them with more information about the project
- Using the online platform and providing us with feedback, at a further meeting or through occasional online surveys
- Sharing your story: telling us what you do across your schools to save energy as a result of what you learn from your energy data
There is no cost to participate in these activities and we anticipate that most schools will see the potential to save 10-20% from their energy bills.
