Your chance to get creative – enter our photography and short story competitions!
To celebrate our tenth birthday, we would like to spark your creativity. We are launching two competitions - a photography competition and a short story competition – on the theme the climate change conversation.
The photography competition is open to all amateur photographers. You can submit up to five entries. Find out more about the photography competition.
The short story competition is open to anyone over 16, writing in English. There’s a 1200 word limit but other than that, what you do is entirely up to you. Find out more about the short story competition.
The competitions are free to enter. Each winner will receive a £150 prize, with two runner-up prizes of £75 available in each competition too.
In both cases, our judges will be looking for strong technique combined with an interpretation of the theme that is creative, original and likely to have a big impact.
Speaking of our judges, we are delighted that our judging panel includes:
Jonathan Reynolds MP, Shadow Energy and Climate Change Minister and MP for Stalybridge since 2010. Working with Jonathan since he was appointed, we have been impressed by his enthusiasm, his endless energy and his willingness to learn about all things sustainability.
Jonathon Porritt CBE, founder of Forum for the Future, Chair of the Sustainable Development Commission from 1997 to 2009 and an internationally published writer. Jonathan has been a genuine inspiration to SE2 and to many others in the sustainability sector over the years. His latest book The World We Made looks back from 2050 and gives us a roadmap (or cycle path?) to a sustainable future.
Mark Lynas, journalist, writer and activist focused on climate change. We think his book Six Degrees is one of the best descriptions of what a changing climate holds for humanity. Mark is not afraid to challenge conventional wisdom, encouraging environmentalists to question their assumptions. Agree or disagree, we love the opportunity to debate!
Penney Poyzer, broadcaster, journalist and eco-goddess! Penney was an early pioneer of low carbon living and has won awards from the Department for Energy and Climate Change, the Sustainable Water Industries Group and Green Guardians, among others. Now turning her attention to community-based, sustainable and affordable food, Penney works tirelessly for environmental and social justice in the UK and abroad.
Charlie Wilson, writer, editor and founder of The Book Specialist, an editorial agency and literary consultancy. If you’re stuck for an idea for the short story competition, her ebook Inspiration for Writers will help!
Simon Punter, a photographer and friend of SE2 who's captured many anindustry event we've facilitated. You'll find him either on location or in his 500sq ft studio in Hove, Sussex. He takes beautiful photos - some of which you can see here!
